Today, and thanks to advances in reproductive genetics, there is more and more hope for all the people who cannot fulfill their dream of being parents.
During the first week of November, and as every year since 2016, the European Fertility Week is celebrated, and from Igenomix we join it with a clear objective: to create awareness and give visibility about infertility and the problems that people who suffer it encounter.
In the European Union alone, 25 million people suffer from infertility, and it affects 1 in 6 couples worldwide.
The probability that a healthy woman will get pregnant in her 30s is 20% each month and drops to 5% when she turns 40. Delaying motherhood implies a decrease in fertility and is the cause of increased reproductive difficulties.
Furthermore, age is not only a factor in infertility. Over the years of research it has been shown that there are also habits such as tobacco, obesity and diseases that can destroy our ovarian reserve and sperm capacity.
Our work at Igenomix
At Igenomix we have been working for many years to be able to offer solutions, such as the SAT test that analyzes sperm to detect possible chromosomal abnormalities, EndomeTRIO that allows couples who are undergoing assisted reproduction treatment to better understand the health of the woman’s endometrium and detect possible causes of failure.
We have also developed the ERA test which increases the chances of pregnancy by analyzing endometrial receptivity because the window of implantation of every woman is different and 3 out of 10 have it displaced, which can lead to implantation failure if the actual window is not known.
The success stories that we have known over the years give us more strength to continue working on being able to offer these solutions to more and more people, and help them see that their dreams of finally having a baby in their arms are possible.
